Archaeological Resources Management System

The South Dakota State Historical Society Archaeological Research Center, Department of Tourism and State Development, has developed a version of its Archaeological Resources Management System (ARMS) database package for access from the World Wide Web. A variety of access levels is available to users, depending on need. Researchers and government agencies should contact the for further details. The general public can also use the system, although not all data categories are available.

Before using ARMS, users must log in.

What's New

We have added our database of radiocarbon dates to ARMS online.
We have been making a few changes in the database structure. The biggest change is to the library tables. Authors are now stored in a single field called 'all_authors' (you can ignore the 'pri_author' field). This listing follows the pattern for a literature citation. The 'subject' field has been replaced by a 'keywords' field containing multiple keywords. Remember to use the format '%xxx%' when searching for a particular keyword or author. This will guarantee that the item will be found regardless of its position in the field. If you use the 'xxx%' format, you will see that item only when it is at the beginning of the field.
Note also that site numbers now begin with '39'.
